We do not take off insignia. These caps were made to the same pattern as the first pattern 1941 SS tropical visor cap, only the material used was reed green herringbone twill in place of the yellow diagonal twill used on the tropical cap. This cap is referenced by Mollo, but it's manufacture seems not to have have been completely displaced by the introduction of the camouflage low crown cap in 1942. Although the reed green HBT version of this cap was seemingly produced in some numbers, it was never mass produced in HBT camouflage. This was true, despite the introduction of camouflage HBT smocks and uniforms made from rayon in late 1943 as stocks as Zeltbahn material were finally exhausted (Germany being unable to acquire cotton). The Lost Battalions reproduction is made of 100% cotton herringbone twill in reed green. The correct large tropical visor is used, not the visor to the so-called M43 cap. It is lined in gray twill, it has two ventilation eyelets on each side, and the stitching is in the correct cream colored thread.
