The Luftwaffe went public in 1935 and its uniform was a carryover from the Nationalsozialistisches Fliegerkorps (NSFK) and the Deutschen Luftsportverband (DLVA). As befitting a National Socialist organization, the NSFK wore an open necked four-pocket coat (Tuchrock) with a collared shirt and necktie. This style of uniform was carried over into the Luftwaffe and the choice of uniform of the new service was indicative of its strong Nazi outlook as opposed to the more traditionalist Army and Navy. The shirt worn with this uniform was made of cotton/rayon blend and later rayon "ersatz" cotton woven with a blue warp and white weft. The color is referred to as blue-mixed (blaumeliert). The shirt is a pullover style with a placket front and attached collar. The collar points are usually quite pronounced, especially compared to the collared shirts of the other services. This particular shirt could be worn with shoulder strap rank and no jacket in warm weather. Late in the war, this shirt was often worn with a tie under the Fliegerbluse for a dressy look.
