Fallschirmjäger jump trousers were introduced in 1938 and the only difference with the later 1940 style was the presence of a first aid bandage pocket on the left hip. This was because the Fliegerbluse, which was the basic combat uniform blouse for the German paratroops, did not have a bandage pocket added to it until 1940. One interesting aspect of this model of trousers is that it never actually seems to have gone out of production. Numerous examples of late war production M38 trousers exist featuring adulterated, mostly rayon, "wool" and satin rayon linings. These field gray wool trousers have every detail:

• All snap closures from Prym, the original maker in Germany
• Dished metal buttons
• Knee pad slits
• Gravity knife pocket on the right knee
• Belt loops and suspender provisions
• Tapered ankle for use with jump boots
• Ankle ties
• Waist adjustment tabs on each hip
