German Army Tropical Trousers
The long trousers of the German Army tropical uniform were very modern and simple by German standards. They are high-waisted in the usual German style, but lack the high rise back found on most German trousers. Instead of the waist adjustment straps on the back or sides, they have a fabric belt built into the waist that closes by way of a three pronged buckle that punches through the fabric which fine tunes the waist. The legs are straight without any tapering, ties or stirrups. On some originals the belt is made of the same olive green or brown cotton twill used in the trousers themselves and other times it was heavy canvas. Some original trousers have "rabbit ears" for the suspenders sewn in the back and others just have the suspender buttons sewn directly inside the waist band. These trousers have two slash pockets and a watch pocket in front. The single back pocket on the right hip has a button closure.
A common field modification on these was the addition of shoe string or twill tape ties inserted into the hem of the trouser legs so they could be tied off and bloused. We offer this as an option.
A word about our fabric.
Because there was such a wide color spectrum used in the original uniforms, we make these uniforms in various shades and sometimes we vary the weight of the twill. We've gotten positive and negative feedback from different customers on the very same pieces, saying the color does or does not match with an original item they have in their collection. It's impossible for us to make and stock every known shade of Army tropical olive and we cannot guarantee shade choices.
