The German Army took a page from the SS-VT uniform book and introduced a "reed green" HBT summer combat uniform in February 1940. The new summer uniform was almost identical in style to the Army's tropical uniform introduced the same year for use in the Mediterranean area, but with the addition of a sixth button at the throat and a closed and hooked collar.
