This cap replaced the officer's M34 pattern field cap, old style (AKA crusher) in 1938. It's almost identical in pattern to the enlisted man's M34 cap and has the addition of bullion wire embroidered cockade, metallic woven eagle and silver metallic, basket-weave piping around the crown and the forward edge of the turn-up.
